Membrane Structures in Japan
This book by Kazuo Ishii presents 66 built and planned projects from 1970 through 1997, and features more than 280 color photos, 140 black-and-white photos and 490 architectural drawings. The projects represent a variety of uses, including sports, meetings, commercial and residential buildings, and a variety of construction types, including steel and wooden frame, suspended, pneumatic, cable dome and retractable structures. The extensive descriptions and illustrations of the projects are put into context through Ishii's essays about the history and modern accomplishments in Japan, safety issues and standards. A list of membrane architecture organizations is included.
